SAIL INFO

On board

A boat is a reduced space of constant coexistence with several people. But a yacht os also a chance to relax, get to know oneself, and enjoy. We have to be flexible and try to have a positive attitude. It is important to create equitable, fair, tasks, and that everybody takes part in the changing shifts necessary for sailing. We would recommend to have them written down with names and schedules, so that everybody can check them.

Luggage

  • Leave fancy clothes behind. We will just need half of the clothes we will embark. Space is of vital importance on board.
  • Rigid suitcases are not appropriate, we will rather use flexible bags that can be stored in less accessible places.
  • A cap, sunglasses, and sun protection are a must.
  • Cotton t-shirts, one for each day on board, some sweaters, as well as a raincoat.
  • Swimming-suits, and cotton trousers.
  • Comfortable shoes wiith rubber sole.
  • Mosquitoes and insect repellent.
  • Sea sickness tablets (especially the first day)

Costs

The provisioning expenses are not included, external moorings, petrol, and profesional crew, in case this is required due to the lack of sailing experience.

Moorings do not normally represent a very high cost if we do prescind of glamorous marinas. Mooring is then often for free.

The cost of petrol in a sailing yacht is very low, because the motor is rarely used and consumes very little (about 2-3 liters/hour).

The skipper is not necessary if one has the necessary diplomas and qualification. Otherwise the skipper costs 150€ a day.

A deposit is mandatory and amounts to 2000 €. You will receive it back once the ship has been returned in proper conditions. The boat has a comprehensive insurance but with a high exemption (normally the amount of the deposit).

Food

Although the kitchen has all the necessary equipment to prepare any dish, space is reduced, and it is in constant movement. Besides, ingestion on board should not be excessive to help digestion. Meals should be light and energetic.

On board breakfast is common, as well as appetizers and dinners, but you can also enjoy leaving the boat and having dinner in the area. You should calculate the shopping necessary for provisioning. Normally the mooring has close supermarkets that are normally cheaper than the marinas you shall visit. A shopping just before getting on board wil be very helpful and will avoid having to return to a marina.

You should count on two liters of water or juice per person and day. Liquid is heavy and in the marinas we will not have a special transport. We recommend one liter water bottles that are easy to handle and do not require a glass each time.

Pasta, rice, chicken, sausages, cheese, mashed potatoes, fruit, prepares meat, appetizers are excellent options.

The fridge and conservation of food requires special mention. Normally the fridges in the boat have scarce space and there is no big freezer; frozen meals shall be excluded. The fridge works with the boat's battery, we have to be cautious to prevent consuming to much energy. An ice-fridge might be very useful. It shoud be reserved for already cold drinks. Ice can last two or three days if the drinks are already cold. Another possibility is to put cans in the freezer and take them before they freeze to the ice-fridge.

Lastly, we remind you that in most charter bases you can order a shopping or with internet from the ship.
