OUR DESTINATIONS - FORMENTERA
The island of Formentera in the Mediterranean belongs to the Balearic archipelago. Together with Ibiza and several smaller islands, they make up the Pitiusas. Formentera is the smallest inhabited Balearic island and the most southern. It is located to 3.6 kilometers south of Ibiza. Its closest spot to Spain is Denia, Alicante, 40 miles away. To the north of the island, there are several uninhabited small islands. The most prominent among them are Espalmador (of about 240 hectares) and Espardell (60 hectares). It has 69 kilometers of coast full of beaches and ravines of great beauty. The island has almost no relief, its highest peek is La Mola with 192 meters height. The climate is soft with an annual average of 18,6 grades centigrades and 2.833,1 hours of sun, annual average. Vegetation is typically Mediterranean, combining areas of dunes with pine groves.
Sant Francesc is the island's capital where the public administations are situates. In La Savina is located the homonymous port, sole access to the island. The main industry is tourism. You can enjoy here the heavenly beaces of Illetes, Llevant, Es Arenals, Mitjorn, Cala Saona, among others. In the sixties and seventies the touristic industry started developing here, still characterized by an atmosphere of quiteness and relax (in contrast to Ibiza). At the same time, in the later sixties, the hippy movement debarked in Formentera. This has profoundly affected the personality of the island.
Formentera shares with Ibiza the traditional gastronomy. An inventive cuisine that facedto the scarcity of products during centuries and was able to profit from quality elements like fish. Precisely in Formentera the fish is excellent and is omnipresent in the local recipes like the 'guisat' a hotpot with potatos or in all the different ways rice is preapred, besides its grilled version. Formentera is something more than just the las Mediterranean paradise. It is a place to enjoy some beautiful summer holidays surrounded by peace, tranquility and a natural environment surprisignly well preserved. It offers its visitors a wide range of possbilities as well, although you can just relax and have a good time in the singular beauty of this place.
The landscape shades are very harmonious and clean, free of the blinding sunlight that invades Formentera during the summer. A sunset or a simple look to the skies and the sea become a unique spectacle that justifies the visit to the island on itself. The island comprises a fscinating sailing tour across unforgettable spots. A yacht is the most suitable, albeit genuine, way to follow a magic circle across the Balearic islands. Formentera invites us to anchor our boat along its coves and admire its nature, to set sails through its coastline, and to approach Spain's mainland and continue with a delightful journey.
